About Stamp

This postage stamp design recognized the significance to the national economy of the development of oil in Western Canada. The new issue replaced the 50-cent denomination (logging operations in British Columbia) of the 1946 pictorial series.

Oil Development

A scene depicting two derricks, a sludge flare, and storage tanks among grain stubble. This scene is typical of oil fields in Alberta. In the background are the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
