About Stamp

Considering Canada's vastness, it is not surprising that we are a leader in communications and that many innovations in the field were developed in this country. Reginald Aubrey Fessenden was born in Quebec, but did most of his work in the United States. In 1900 he broadcast the human voice for the first time. He produced more than 500 inventions, including the AM radio. For this second set of stamps in the Science and Technology series, designer Roger Hill of Toronto linked four very different kinds of innovations in communications by focusing on portraits of the inventors. The context of each innovation is shown in drawings and illustrations surrounding these portraits.
