About Stamp

Canada Post honours the Canada Millennium Partnership Program by issuing a single domestic-rate commemorative stamp. The program will promote local, national and international partnerships that leave a positive legacy for future generations. It was established in 1998 under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Herb Gray, who noted, "It is a unique opportunity to make a contribution that will make a lasting difference in our own lives as well as the lives of others."

Helping Canadians to mark the new millennium in meaningful and creative ways, the Canada Millennium Partnership Program (CMPP) seeks to enable initiatives that examine our heritage, celebrate our achievements and build our future. The program will help support projects that explore Canada's history, natural beauty, ethnic and cultural diversity, and technical and scientific excellence. By stimulating interest in communities large and small, it is hoped the CMPP will bring Canadians together and permit an exchange of ideas that strengthen Canada and reinforce our position in the world.

A symbol of celebration

Design for the Canada Millennium Partnership Program commemorative stamp was by karacters design group of Vancouver the same group responsible for the visual treatment of the federal government's millennium programs. According to karacters vice president and creative director, Maria Kennedy, the logo featured on the stamp provides a consistent visual identity across a broad range of communications products. "The logo, symbolizing movement toward the new millennium, breaks out of a clear blue sky, signaling optimism for the future."

"Based on the interest and enthusiasm we have witnessed on our millennium website," comments Deputy Prime Minister Herb Gray, "I am confident we can create new learning and sharing opportunities and forge new friendships that span generations."
