About Stamp

In 1939 Canada is at war. Armed with cameras, employees of the newly founded National Film Board of Canada work tirelessly to document the heroism, sacrifice and experiences of Canadians at home and on the front lines.

“Since the beginning, NFB filmmakers have explored uniquely Canadian stories, documented the achievements of Canadians in every field of endeavor, and chronicled key moments in the life of our country,” says Claude Joli-Cœur, NFB Acting Commissioner.

Fast-forward 75 years. With an eye to the future, the NFB is digitizing its collection of more than 13,000 productions and making these landmark films available to all through smartphones, tablets and connected TV.

Our stamps showcase Norman McLaren’s Academy Award winner Neighbours (1952); The Railrodder (1965), directed by Gerald Potterton, which takes audiences on a comical trans-Canada rail journey; Claude Jutra’s coming-of-age story Mon oncle Antoine (1971); John Weldon’s animated Log Driver’s Waltz (1979); and Cynthia Scott’s Oscar worthy Flamenco at 5:15 (1983).
